Toni Grissom has worked with the Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind for 38 years. She is currently assigned to our Eyeglass Case Department. Toni has been an inspiration to the entire DLB team for several reasons. Not only does she take pride in her work each day, but Toni consistently overcomes unique hurdles in her pathway to success. Toni is deaf, and has tunnel vision, which restricts her peripheral view. While that would be enough to stop most people from succeeding in the workplace, she is also autistic. “In high school, Toni attended the Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind’s summer program where she fit right in. She fell in love with the Dallas Lighthouse,” her mother reports.
Since her time in the summer program, Toni has gained the skills to become more independent. Recently she managed moving into her own apartment, conveniently located near her work. This makes her mother Billie Grissom proud indeed. “My daughter is now capable of serving me a meal,” Billie says with a huge smile. “I am eternally grateful to the Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind.” All of us at the Dallas Lighthouse recognize the importance of overcoming obstacles when pursuing success. Toni is a terrific example of success!
