The Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind (DLB) enhances the lives and opportunities for the visually impaired in North Texas by providing jobs, job training, and other services that empower and encourage its clients toward living independently.

Founded in 1931, The Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind is the largest employer of the blind and visually impaired in north Texas, and is currently in expansion mode in order to meet the demand for its services. It is part of a network of similar agencies nationwide which operates a federal purchasing program that enables people who are blind to work and provide products and services to federal and commercial customers.

The Dallas Lighthouse presents a different profile than the majority of non-profits common in the sector. While it credibly is a 501(c)3 organization, it is unique in that most of the revenue comes from earned income; clearly setting the Dallas Lighthouse apart from the majority of charitable organizations. The new Director of Philanthropy role was created to design and create a private philanthropic program to further advance the organization's 80-year legacy. Dramatically increasing the private support base will allow the Dallas Lighthouse to maintain its level of excellence as an employer of blind and visually impaired persons.

The Opportunity: Director of Philanthropy
Reporting to the President and CEO, the Director of Philanthropy is a new role responsible for planning, managing and implementing the philanthropic strategy, driving all contributed income for Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind in support of its current and long-term strategic objectives. This position will ensure the effective delivery of the Lighthouse's vision, mission and brand through its fundraising programs. The Director will develop and implement strategies to build upon current relationships, and develop new connections with individual donors, corporations, foundations, government and others that will increase contributed income and revenue.

The strongest applicants will possess a proven track record in providing creative and innovative leadership in resource development and in promoting and administering dynamic fundraising strategies. The successful candidate will have demonstrated skills in the full spectrum of development activities with a special emphasis on individual giving.

The Qualified Candidate
The Director of Philanthropy must have the ability to build strong relationships with DLB's Board of Directors, Staff and the Dallas philanthropic community. The successful candidate must be able to efficiently assess the initial development efforts and build a program utilizing best practices and proven experience.
